Testimonial: Vijay Vaidyanathan - MSc RAM 2006-2007

After having been out of school for quite some time, it was with some trepidation that I decided to re-enter a college campus. Although the financial markets had long been a fascination of mine, I had no formal background or any direct work experience in the financial markets.

The course descriptions for the Risk and Asset Management programme sounded exciting, but I wasn't certain that I'd made the right decision.

However, all my doubts vanished within the first thirty minutes of my first class! The overview of the programme that I got on the first day of class was so exciting that I knew I'd done the right thing!

Many of the themes we studied were completely new to me such as Fixed Income and this turned out to be fascinating. I can honestly say that sometimes even after a 3-hour session, I was often disappointed that the class had to come to an end and I wished we could just keep going!

The course modules are rigorous and are a unique blend of state-of-the-art practice that is well grounded in theory - a combination that is not easy to find anywhere else. The renowned EDHEC Risk and Asset Management Research Centre brings a great deal of industry experience and knowledge into the programme and this ensures that the course material is never too far removed from the realities of today's financial markets.

Many of the key courses are taught by world renowned faculty who have hands-on industry experience as well as brilliant academic records. The highlight of the course was the final module which was a series of interactive talks by senior practitioners from some of the largest and best known names in the industry, giving us a rare and intimate opportunity to interact on a one-on-one basis with the very top people in the business.

The EDHEC Risk and Asset Management Research Centre also holds conferences and seminars in Paris and London which we were all invited to attend and which once again reinforced our continuing interaction with the industry.

The school provided a lot of valuable extra help such as an excellent intensive French course before the term began. This course was customized for different levels of prior experience - ranging from beginner to advanced. This gave me a head-start on making my year in France all the more valuable, and introduced me to some of my future colleagues even earlier.  Of course, the fact that the campus is located on the stunning Cote d'Azur in the South of France which I believe is one of the most beautiful places on the planet is a very pleasant bonus!

But perhaps one of the great joys of being part of EDHEC's Risk and Asset Management programme is the fact it attracts the crème de la crème of applicants. If you choose to be part of this elite and multicultural programme, you will have the opportunity to meet and work with some of the very brightest young people anywhere!

Working with and getting to know the rest of your colleagues is a reward in itself, and one that I hope you will enjoy as much as I did.
