Testimonial: Hanyu Wang - MSc RAM 2005-2006

"In my opinion an MSc degree from EDHEC is definitely valuable when looking for a job or internship. It is not only one of the best business schools in France and Europe, but students also benefit from the international renown of the Risk and Asset Management Centre. I enjoyed my life at EDHEC, I really appreciate all the help I got and the great academic atmosphere. "

After finishing my undergraduate studies in Mathematics from Nanjing University, I was offered a place in EDHEC Business School's MSc in Risk and Asset Management programme.

Today, after an exciting study period, I am doing my 6-month internship in the Risk Management Department of Dexia Asset Management SA in Brussels and am working as an assistant in market risk management for the equity funds, institutional and private mandate.

My responsibilities involve some database-building for static structured products and some basic coding by VBA. This internship is an amazing experience for me, it is a real a link between study and work and I have the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge I learnt from EDHEC, such as option pricing, passive/active way to manage asset, and analysis of tracking error.

I got this internship information with the help of my professor, Daphne Sfeir and her Career Campaign. She is a one of the kindest people I have ever met and gave all the international students a lot of help in finding a job. Through the 2005 Alunimi book that is given to all MSc students, I knew that there was an alumnus currently working for Dexia BIL so I gave her a call and asked her for information on the bank and got a general idea about Dexia Group. Luckily, knowledge of the French language wasn't necessary for this job.  To prepare for my interview, the careers advisor in EDHEC's Career Service, offered me great help. She gave me several interview simulations to sharpen my interview technique as well as very useful advice towards handling some potential questions. Without the School's help, I am sure I wouldn't have got this internship.

I finish this internship at the end of December and in January I begin my real career in Sinopia AM Paris as a risk officer within its risk team. This position fits my general background more closely so I'm really looking forward to it. Again, it wasn't necessary to speak French to get this job but I did do some of my interview in French as they want to test my French skills. After 5 months in Dexia I had certainly made progress in my French language so it wasn't too hard for me but my boss in Sinopia expects me to be able to communicate with them as well as fund managers in French after 6-months, which is a big challenge ...

In my opinion an MSc degree from EDHEC is definitely valuable when looking for a job or internship. It is not only one of the best business schools in France and Europe, but students also benefit from the international renown of the Risk and Asset Management Centre.  I enjoyed my life at EDHEC, I really appreciate all the help I got and the great academic atmosphere.

I started out as a beginner in finance last September and am soon to be Risk Officer.

I owe this to EDHEC.
